to have or not to have... how many prefer to leave the rear dewclaws on their dogos......and how many would rather remove them as pups

I say I prefer them to be removed. Rock doesn't have his dew claws and when we had Sapo's ears done we had the vet remove his dew claws. They are one less thing to worry about. They get long and I really don't see the purpose of them.

Evita has her dewclaws. She just ripped the nail off her right dew claw and sprained the joint of the dewclaw. Painful for her and another $70 plus 2 to three weeks of not letting her dew claw get wet, keeping her from licking it, and puttins salve on it. I swear if I had known that breeders could remove the dewclaws when dogs were little pups when I got Evita I would have had it done. I also didn't know that I could have had it done when she was spayed.
My vote is to get rid of the dewclaw. It serves no purpose and it's easy for a dog to injure it. I hate dewclaws!!

Ive never had problems with the dew claws. But, I agree they dont have much purpose other than helping the dog climb a tree.
Amy, do you have any pics of Evita. Are you taking her with you to Oklahoma?

Hi Kevin - I'm not bringing Evita this trip. I can't take a long vacation this month to be able to drive down and it's a huge hassle and expense to fly Evita to Oklahoma with me. So, unfortunately, no Evita on this trip Here's some photos of her: and
