Catfish will eat most anything that "stinks" .... there are all sorts of "prepared baits" .... I like to use cut bait ..shad,carp,shrimp .... I like the dough stink baits as well.
"Flatheads" prefer live bait as they are more of a predator than scavenger .. but the blues and channel cats can be had with just about anything.
you MIGHT take a bucket full of milo..fill it with water and a lid and let it "sour" in the sun a few days before you go fishing next. Take a small can (avoid getting that stuff on you unless you want to smell it for a LONG time) and throw a few can fulls wher you are casting ... this will give a stronger smell to come to.

WELL You asked for it so here it is. I swore I would never tell anyone my secret, but you guys have shared so much with me it just wouldn't be right not too. SO get your pens ready if you like catfish cause this will catch them for you. LOL Chum: Fill a 5 gallon bucket half way full of Milo. Add one can of beer and fill with water to 2-3 inches over the milo. Put the lid on it and don't open it for at least 2 weeks of fermating in the sun. If its cooler weather or cloudy it can take longer. The longer the better. When this stuff is ready it will smell like death and be crawling with maggots. ;D This chum is good for shallow water fish, I would say 12 ft or less. If the water is too deep or there is a current the chum will just spread out too far and defeat the perpose. A 50 lb bag of 20% range cubes works great for deeper water. ( I use both in shallow water and range cubes only in deeper water.) The top secret bait: In a 3-5 gallon bucket mix: 10 lbs shreeded cheese 3 lbs hog brains I also add shad thats left over from a fishing trip.( We use shad to baiting jug lines.) Put the lid on and let this stuff sit in the sun for at least a month before using. It will break down and the grease from the cheese will rise to the top. I use a drill and a homemade paddle to stir it up like you would if you were mixing pant. I also add cat tail fuzz to think'n the bait and it works great for keeping the bait on the hook. Rigging the line: I don't use anything smaller than 15 lb test and rig it for bottom fishing. I use a #4 treble hook with a sponge and about 6 inches up the line I put a small clamp weight and above that a 3/4 oz egg weight that slides freely, but will not go any lower than the clamp weight. Catfish spawn around April and May in shallow waters around bulkheads and docks. But before the spawn the male catfish move into the shallow water to make the beds for the females. So if you think your man enough to put up with the stink thats how you catch the catfish. ;D Chris P.S. I have another chum recipe that I have not tried yet. But I've been told It makes a chum cloud so thick it hangs around for hours if the winds just right. I'll post it here in a min.

Chum recipe: In a 5 gallon buck fill 1/2 full of milo. 1/4 full of range cubes. Add 3 dozen 10 day old eggs ! quart of beer water 2" over the top Put the lid on and let fermate. After fermating add 1 bottle of cooking oil (conola oe vegtable.) Mix well. This chum should make a chum cloud that will hang around for hours and a oil slick on top of the water that will look like your boat motor just blew up. Chris

Ill bet that "catfish chum" would attract every hog in a tri-county area as well ;D

Dang Chris, your one sick puppy. Hog Brains & Cheese......SICK! All I use for channel or blues is cut perch or shad. I don't like to buy the shad that's been frozen, just never had any luck with it, but the perch always seem to come through for me.

also to add for water that has no current try getting 12 cans of wet dog food and poke holes in them and toss them out in a 20 foot pattern type area wait a day and have fun...this also works good for white perch (crappie)

well i went fishing again yesterday....i didn't have time to mix up any of that maggot gaggin stuff...cuz it has to ferment and all.....but anyway i caught 3 pretty good size mudcats and a small black bass. i was only out there for like an hour and a half though and i was using the legendary chicken liver. i through the cats back cuz i didn't feel like cleaning 'em. i would post pics but i didn't have a camera along cuz i wasn't planning on catching anything. I'll have to look into that dog food thing....they'd probly do wonders around the tank!
