:)I have a gyp 7 month old yellow bmc. Well she been coming on strong in the pen with the hogs.. But when I take her to the woods she stays with the older dogs for a while then she ends up getting lost and heading back to the truck .. I like the fact that she could find her way to the truck no matter where we are ,but she should find me or the other dogs instead of heading back to the truck. Well she alittle shady (scard) she jumps for anything and she hard to catch alot of the time i figuer her nerves are bad. could she end up coming out of this ,she been like this scince the first day I got her, but I like her cause she gets gone in the woods .she like to take the lead and she wont look back and when she notices that the older dogs went a diffrent dierection she gets nerves and head back to the truck i don`t get it. if yall could shed some light on this for me that would help out thanks

We have a little female like what you say yours does, she would go out but then come back to us or the truck, we then made it a point of sending her with another dog that we knew would go to the bay and she would stay with that dog and be there when we got to the bay, can't say as her problem was nerves though. I think just inexperience has alot to do with it. Hopefully age and some experience with her first baying in the woods with the catch will click with her. I don't think I would give up on her, she is still young and I bet she comes around and really surprises you. I would keep taking her, maybe even walk her a ways with you then release her. But I think if releasing her with another experienced dog will help her alot. Let us know how it goes with her.

:)hello Cathydogo .. well i let her go with older experience dogs but she like to take the lead and when she does that she gets lost if the dogs wind and head a diffrent dierection and she don`t notice them she ends up getting lost so i call for her and she wont come to me.. the thing is she got a good nose cause she find her way back to the truck we could be miles away at a new spot and she will find her way back, I think she should be finding me in the woods instead of going all the way back to the truck.. maybe she is still to much pup in her still need to give her more time.. but her nerves are bad i do study my dogs good in the wood and there are thing that the older dogs do that she wont do like if they go thur a hole thur some fellen down trees she would find away with out going thur that she just get nerves and finds another way to go and that sometime cause her to get lost from the pack. and anything gets her atention even at a bay she would jump if i thow a rock by her or if i step on a twig and it cracks the nose would get her atention and scare her.. well i do hope she comes out of it she got some good blood and she gets gone but i can`t deal with the fact of her getting lost and not finding me and when i call her she get nerves and wont come to me like im going to hit her or something and i never have laid a hand on her yet lol...but she does have to come togetter she has a year from this date to get it togetter or i will be culling her

Hey Kong, If you like some of the traits she has and you are willing to work with her then I would probably try a couple of things if she were mine. 1. She is still young and not to old to get her over her nervousness, so I would take the time with the dog bu putting her on a lead at home and walking her around, have some treats ( I used tiny cut up peices of hot dog) and when she is at the end of kead call her to you, pull her to you and give her a treat and some hands on petting. let her go to end of lead and do this again and again until she starts paying attention and understanding that you want her to come to you. Only work in short intervals of about 10-20 minutes and maybe increase the leashe length twhen she starts responding. Also start taking her for rides in your truck and get her used to seeing things, hearing loud noises, get new people to walk up and pet her in you truck or on lead just to socialize and learn that not everything in this world is out to get her. just like to convenient store, ball park, ect. I think she probably gets nervous and goes to the truck because it is familiar and a safe "zone". 2. the next thing I would do is kennel her with one of you older dogs, then she can have a "pack" buddy, another "safe zone" for when she is in the woods and gets upset she will be more confident with her buddy and hopefully stick to this dog and learn from it. This method has worked for some dogs, but not all. I think as long as you keep working with the dog she will only get better Hope this helps, Good Luck!

Excellent ideas and suggestions. we have done things like that with the momma dog in the above pictures , and it worked. She was pretty skiddish when we got her a year ago, but will come up to us now and she seems to have settled down. I think a young dog like that is worth the work, but when we took her hunting, she wouldn't come to us but when we left the pickup doors open she hopped right in. She would go to the bay, she still needs some work so we will see how she does after the puppies are weaned. I like all your suggestions.

Hey King kong didnt I tell you to do the same exact thing that Uglydog just advised? The leash, hotdog, riding in the truck? All that dog needs is to get out of those for walls and and be socialized around different atmospheres and situations. The dogs nerves are pretty timid but she hjas an excellent nose. Like King Kong said no matter where we're at or how far we 've gone at the end of the night she'll be at the truck. Another thing is that she's never been on a bay in the woods. Everytime she's gone out its pretty much just beenplaytime for her. The only time we came across some hogs she already had been lost and missed out on the hunt. As Uglydog suggested and I have too...lol. Take her out man even if you're just going to the corner. Do the leash thing, that will deffenitley help. Think of it like this... it can only help. Work with your dogs and you will be rewarded. I aint gonna lie she has pissed me off as well but she'll get older and she will mature. Let see what happens once she realizes what she's out there for. Just some brotherly advice, Tico.
