Here is a link to a video about force retreiving. I've read Delmar Smiths book on training bird dogs and it was the most imformational book I've ever read on training dogs. Might want to give this a try. www.gundogsupply.com/dsv002.htmlKO

Start them in the water. In other words through your dummy in and let them dive in after it. Labs especailly love the water and retriving in water is as fun as you can make it for them. I started my current lab off just walking along the bank of our pond an tosing sticks a few feet out into the water. I had her retriving in the dove field by five months old and she's five years old now and is the best one I've ever had. As far as the dummy goes put it in her mouth and take it back from her then repeat. When she's gets where she doesn't want to give it back to you then start throwing it a few yards away. Before long she won't be able to stand it and bust her tail to it. That's when the fun part of teaching to retrieve on command and bringing it back and giving it up comes in. A good dog will do most things naturally though. Teaching a good retriever is more about teaching manors and commands they are born with the rest.
